The project team came together on 11th to 13th March for its second General Assembly, hosted by Meteo France (MF), Toulouse France.
Invited guests and WP leaders presented at the hybrid meeting over the 3 days. The meeting was well attended with over 40 in person and up to 15 online.
Day 1:
Jean Christophe Calvet (Meteo France) and Patricia de Rosnay (ECMWF) opened the meeting and provided a warm welcome and introduction to the 3 days of presentations and discussions.
The Deputy Director of Copernicus Climate Change, Chiara Cagnazzo, (invited speaker) gave an overview of C3S activities and how the CERISE developments will benefit the C3S.
Anna Agusti-Panareda (invited speaker) then followed with a remote presentation on Land Surface in CAMS.
The afternoon continued with WP1 and WP2 presentations.
WP1 Land DA results were presented by Pete Weston (ECMWF) and Abishek Lodh (SMHI).
This was then followed by the WP2 update; Coupled DA results, presented by Patricia de Rosnay (ECMWF), Christoph Herbert, (ECMWF) Jostein Blyverket (MET Norway).
With the afternoon session complete, it was then time for posters.
There were 6 posters presented by the project team which were discussed over a selection of refreshments:
Day 2:
Day 2 continued with the remaining workpackage updates from the WP3, WP4, WP5, WP6 and WP7 teams.
WP3 initial conditions results were presented by Jean-Christophe Calvet (MF), Oscar Rojas-Munoz (MF), Gabriel Narvaez-Campo (MF) and Martin Lange (DWD).
Harald Schyberg (Met Norway), Åsmund Bakketun (Met Norway) , Jostein Blyverket (Met Norway), Eivind Støylen (Met Norway), Patrick Lemoigne (MF) and Hans Herbach (ECMWF) provided the WP4 reanalysis prototypes update.
Núria Pérez-Zanón (BSC) and Anca Brookshaw (ECMWF) presented the WP5 seasonal demonstrators status.
The WP6 update was provided by Jeff Knight (Met Office UK, Frédéric Vitart (ECMWF), Gabriel Narváez (MF) and David Fereday (Met Office UK).
WP7 progress and plans was presented by Isabel Trigo (IPMA) and Margarita Choulga (ECMWF), with input from Carla Cardinali (CMCC) and Etienne Tourigny (BSC).
This rounded off the science presentations. Rhona Phipps (ECMWF) then provided an update on the WP8 coordination workpackage and gave highlights from the RV2 review period before looking forward to the next reporting period tasks and deadlines.
Inter-workpackage breakout meetings, to discuss plans and next steps for the coming months, finished off Day 2.
Meteo France very kindly hosted the General Assembly dinner at the Brasserie des Beaux Arts in Toulouse on Wednesday evening.
Day 3:
Day 3 started with a plenary session on WP6; discussing the interdependencies of WP6 with the other scientific workpackages ( 1-7), with 2 highlight talks:
Highlight 1: Ekaterina Vorobeva (NILU): "Assessing the fidelity and reliability of snow re-forecasts in phase ) and
Highlight talk 2: Jonny Day (ECMWF): "How well do seasonal forecast models capture land-atmosphere coupling”
The final sessions were the reports from the break out groups to plenary.
Patricia de Rosnay closed the meeting and gave our thanks to Jean-Christophe and colleagues for hosting us at Meteo France premises and also for the excellent dinner on Wednesday evening.
