The CERISE project team had a busy September conference season, presenting their latest work at 4 international conferences:
ECMWF Annual Seminar
First International Symposium on Earth System Modeling and Prediction
6th C3S General Assembly
International Earth System Working Group
Kicking off the month with ‘Towards Earth system reanalysis', Patricia de Rosnay included CERISE in her presentation at the ECMWF Annual Seminar on Earth System Reanalysis, ECMWF, Reading UK, 4-8th September 2023. The CERISE activities were well represented at the Annual Seminar with also Harald Schyberg (Norwegian Meteorological Institute) presenting one slide on CERISE for regional reanalysis activities. Magdalena Balmaseda pointed out the synergy between CONFESS and CERISE, Chiara Cagnazzo highlighted the relevance of CERISE users‘ needs and Han Hersbach mentioned CERISE when describing the future evolution of reanalysis systems.
Patricia then presented CERISE at the First International Symposium on Earth System Modeling and Prediction, CEMC/ CMA, Nanjing, China, 11-12th September 2023.
Because of time clashes, Patricia recorded the talk “Next Generation Reanalysis: Results from the CERISE project”, on behalf of the CERISE consortium, for the 6th C3S General Assembly, https://climate.copernicus.eu/6th-c3s-general-assembly in Brno, Czechia, 12-14th September 2023 and also provided a poster!
The month was rounded off with 3 talks at the International Earth System Working Group meeting, Finnish Meteorological Institute in Helsinki, Finland 26-28th September 2023 :
Ewan Pinnington “Towards Ensemble Land Data Assimilation” (remote presentation), along with
Patricia de Rosnay who presented the CERISE project as part of her talk on “Coupled land-atmosphere data assimilation at ECMWF”, and
Gernot Geppert (DWD) who included a slide on DWD’s activities in CERISE for seasonal prediction initialisation in his presentation on “Progress towards new variational surface analyses at DWD”
A busy month indeed with fantastic opportunities to share the news about the CERISE project aims and progress to date.
